On February 23rd, Major (Ret.) Metin Gürcan, PhD Candidate in the Department of Political Science at Bilkent University, addressed a Bilkent International Security and Strategy Seminar (BISSS) at the Bilkent Hotel.
Metin Gürcan is currently writing his PhD dissertation, which is seeking to explain endogenous factors driving change within the Turkish military, and thus influencing Turkish civil-military relations. For this purpose, between May-September 2015, he conducted a survey with 1,400 officers of different ranks and services, a representative sample of the Turkish officer corps. In his BISSS seminar entitled “A survey on change within the Turkish officer corps: From where and to what?” Gürcan presented his findings to explain generational changes (difference among ranks) and cross-sectional changes (difference among force commands) within the officer corps.
