We were thrilled to host Dr. Derya Göçer of Middle East Technical University as part of our Peace Talk Series, who shared her research on the transformation of Middle Eastern states in response to foreign investments — in this case, China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Dr. Göçer’s presentation evaluated the difficulties that various research methods encounter when illuminating subject and underscored both the novelty and importance of adopting a comparative research design in understanding the variety of interests and processes that influence states’ trajectories.
