Our Center and journal, All Azimuth, were proud to co-host with the Turkish Fulbright Commission and the Hollings Center the Continuities and Changes in Türkiye-US Relations Conference in celebration of the centenary anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey as well as the 75th anniversary of the Turkish Fulbright Association.
The event brought together leading scholars and policy experts to address both practical and theoretical issues in the Turkish-American relationship. The Conference was inaugurated by video messages from Ambassador Yaprak Balkan, the General Director for the Americas of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, and Jeffry L. Flake, the United States Ambassador to Turkey. The ensuing panels and roundtable session sought to appraise and diagnose problems in the relationship to explore ways to strengthen the Turkey-US relationship.
Our staff and board members also contributed to the conference with their presentations. Seçkin Köstem and Efe Tokdemir “Micro-Level Drivers of Turkish Public Opinion Towards the US and Other Major Powers,” İlker Kalın presented his research with Carla Martinez Machain titled “Exploring the Role of Military Interactions in U.S.-Turkey Relations,” and Onur Erpul with Kemal Kirişci their research “Where is the Anchor? The Triple Logics of Ideational Bonds, Geo-Strategic Interests, and Decision-making Contexts in Turkish-American Relations, 1927-2023.”
